London Gatwick Airport
London Gatwick Airport is the sixth busiest airport in
the world. It is located approximately 30 miles South of Central London and is
the second largest airport in the UK. Gatwick Airport currently handles 30
million passengers a year and this is predicted to rise to about 40 million by
the year 2008. There are approximately 70 airlines that fly from Gatwick Airport
to about 200 destinations around the world.
Getting to Gatwick Airport:
By road: From the
M25 motorway, leave at Junction 7 to get onto the M23 which links directly to
London Gatwick. Leave the M23 at Junction 9. Gatwick Airport is well
sign-posted.
By rail: Gatwick
Airport has its own train station and can be accessed from either London
Victoria using the Gatwick Express train service (approximately 30 minutes) or
alternatively the Connex or Thameslink services which take approximately 45-50
minutes. London Gatwick Airport has connections to a wide range of destinations
including Brighton to the South which is 30 minutes and Reading to the West.
By coach: There
are a number of coach companies that travel between Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton and
Stansted Airports. Coaches can also be taken to a wide number of destinations
around the country. Coach travel forms a cheaper mode of travel.
London Gatwick Airport Facilities
Gatwick Airport has two terminals – the North Terminal
and South Terminal. Both have Information Desks with multi-lingual staff to
offer assistance. There is also Bureaux de Change, ATMs, retail shops, duty-free
outlets, restaurants and bars. There is a post office in the South Terminal and
an adjacent medical centre in Ashdown House offering immunisations. Facilities
are also available for religious worship.
For those requiring special assistance there is a range
of facilities for passengers who are disabled or with special needs. For
passengers with wheelchairs, there are ramps and/or lifts wherever there is a
change of level. Reserved seating is provided in the check-in areas and
International Departures Lounges. For those arriving at Gatwick Airport, a
telephone service is available at the entrance for those wishing to ask for
wheelchair or buggy assistance. Just pick up the telephone; dial the number as
directed and someone will come to you to assist you with check in.
Business travellers are well cared for at London Gatwick
Airport with a number of business lounges and express check in services.
For those needing car rental, there are a range of car
rental companies including Avis, Budget, Europcar and Hertz.
Both the North and South Terminals provide short term
